Minian Pipeline 3 meter power cable flickering issue

Hi everyone,

We recently found an issue with analysis in the minian pipeline for miniscope videos due to a power cable change from 1.5m to 3.0m in the miniscope recordings. The change to the 3.0m cable has led to flickering in the video which has thrown off the motion correction step of the pipeline. The pre-processed video without motion correction shows less movement compared to the motion corrected video. If anyone has encountered this problem, it would be greatly appreciated for your help and guidance.

Hi Sarvesh,

I have seen this type of striping before, but I haven't seen it in a long time. I had concluded that this type of striping (when I observed it a few years back) was due to electrical noise, likely from the coaxial cable being too long or from improper soldering of the coax to the PCB of the UCLA V4 Miniscope. I do not know what type of Miniscope you are using, but it is at the hardware level that the problem is arising from. If you can switch back to a configuration you were using previously without this striping, you should.

I unfortunately have bad news - these videos are likely unsavable. You must remove this noise at the hardware/recording level before you can get any meaningful output from any preprocessing pipeline (Minian included). I'm really sorry, I know how much striping in general sucks. Hopefully it's only a couple of recordings.
