set a service to debug temporarily. Best practice.

I am having a issue with a service.
I want to set the service into debug mode to enable logging to diagnose the issue.

The service is here

What is the best way to set this service/any service into debug mode ( passing -d to it, temporarily)?

If this is in the docs and I missed it, I apologize.

There is no generic way to set any service into debug mode. Not all service programs have a debug mode.

The dbus-wait-for program used in that service description isn't part of dinit. I would guess you can just add -d to the end of that command line (i.e. the command = ... setting) and it will be passed on to bluetoothd but check the distribution documentation (or just try it and see?). Perhaps I don't understand what you're really asking.

(To make a temporary change in general, you might just want to copy the service description file from /lib/dinit.d to /etc/dinit.d and edit the copy. Service descriptions in /etc/dinit.d will override those in /lib/dinit.d. But I don't think this is possible for the package you linked to, because it looks like it puts the service description file immediately into /etc/dinit.d instead of /lib/dinit.d).
