Describe the bug

I have a synology NAS and both SMB and NFS enabled
I tried both way to make a collection but it never does, around 5 hours it collects only 250 RAW photos to the collection. But if I copy the entire foldef rom NAS to local nVme it takes just few minutes!

LRC can make colelction from Network Drive like a local drive. why cant Darktable? Whats the obligations?
SMB is running even NFS is runnign wired connection 2.5Gb port can read folder make folder just can not bring the raw file to collection either generating thumb or other option.

Please please fix this.

Steps to reproduce

1. on ubuntu mount your nas via SMB
2. Open Darktable [not snap or app image only vai PPA]
3. import and get to the NAS folder
4. Add photos to collection
5. now wait forever

Have you tried to find out why the process is so slow? A first step could be to start darktable with the debug option -d common and analyze the generated log. (see https://darktable-org.github.io/dtdocs/en/special-topics/program-invocation/darktable/) for all options available)

I did tried to figure out why it was so slow cant even generate thumbs. First it was snap version ok I understood then moved to AppImage version and that did not worked eihter. So I figure the PPA source version is working correctly. At least it can see the network drive directly without making a fake local folder redirect method. But then, adding raw image was like never ending.

Yes I mean add to library and colelction - I just came from LRC to darktable so terms are new to me.

Please create a debug log. That's the only way to find out what's really happening.

NAS and Samba are known to be (very) slow. I remember several complaints, here and / or on https://discuss.pixls.us/c/software/darktable/19
