Moving per-word and per-line ability on Mac OS

Hey everyone, I'm new to the Mac OS, but as far as I've known the combination of option + left/right arrow key moves cursor per-word and combination of command + left/right arrow key moves per-line in most mac programs. However, pushing option + arrow does nothing in NotepadNext and command + arrow moves cursor per-line. This behavior is different from most mac programs and I didn't find a way to change it. Is there one, or should I request it as a feature?
