I appreciate all your volunteer work and dedication on NotepadNext.

I went to https://github.com/dail8859/NotepadNext/blob/master/i18n/NotepadNext_pt_BR.ts and found several untranslated entries, for example:

Are these entries new? If the answer is yes, I will translate the new entries so that the next ".AppImage" has the complete "pt_BR" translation.

I remember that you had approved my merge request #767 and #770, in the file "NotepadNext_pt_BR.ts" I had not left any entry to be translated with the text type="unfinished".

As you mentioned on this page, GitHub sent me an email notification.

hello guys, is there any issue with .log files?

i am getting some glitches and lagging when i am loading some .log files

i am using the Mac edition of the notepadNext

its 4.9mb and there is a huge line.

i tried both ways with wrapping on and off and it stills lagging.

I count the length of the line and its 1343096 characters.

There's definitely known issues with the third-party library (Scintilla) when there are extremely long lines. There still might be some way of improving the performance in this case but this is likely a case of just some unavoidable limitation.

It's not just Scintilla. Open such a long file up in any given editor (nano, vim, Xcode, TextEdit, even my own editor, Notepad==, etc) and it will take absolutely forever to load it and work with it. It's a technical limitation.

textedit the native app can handle that kind of files, but its the native app and is missing the features of the notepadnext.

Yeah, but TextEdit can still crash and lags 100% of the time when y ou open a file that big. It's a hardware limitation.

I just tried downloading it on OSX 10.15.7 , it's incompatible.

Which... brings me to a general question : how come OS-version compatiblity has become such an issue?? Is it just that nowadays we release (I'm in IT as well) versions with no "milestone" versions? For example : My Word app 16.6 still works (I think it's like 2019 or so). But Obsidian, the best MacOX Word replacement it seems, does not.

I think that's really the key here. Nowadays we just release x.y and continue, whereas before you'd have a major system release and could stick with that well-identified version for a long time (except if server-side logic changes too much)

This project uses Qt6.5 which states it is compatible with macOS 11 and above. Even with that Qt6.5 is already past end of life for the open-source releases.

So...is there a specific ask here? To support older OSs? macOS 10.15 is already unsupported by Apple for nearly 3 years. The open-source Qt project is very forceful about pushing open-source projects to the latest possible version. This project attempts to be compatible with supported OSs. Older versions will only be supported on a best effort bases if someone is willing to submit a pull request. This project should also be compatible with older versions of Qt which would support older OSs if someone wanted to build their own version.

Yeah no, no ask, I was just having a talk about the industry as a whole. Maybe it's just that before hardware upgrade was required rather frequently, weather now it's slumped (Law of Moore isn't respected anymore as you know). So software upgrades are now driving the hardware upgrades more.

Agreed. And industry likes to assume everything is constantly connected and updates are more real time, rather than providing longer support for hardware and software.

To note, this is compatible with Qt5.15 (tested here). So you could try and build with that. If that fails, there's always OpenCore Legacy Patcher...
