I've figured out that it's due to the is_search_page variable not being picked up. I don't know how to actually fix this, but if you remove the if-statement around these scripts from papermod/templates/partials/footer.html, the search works again:

It does load the scripts unnecessarily for all pages however. Someone who knows the templating language better can probably figure out an actual fix.

to me it looks like it is looking for the json file in the incorrect location, eg:

https://cydave.github.io/search_index.en.json

instead of where it should be looking:

https://cydave.github.io/zola-theme-papermod/search_index.en.json

probably a very simple fix, just wanted to make sure you were aware.

I don't know if any pull request specifically addressed this issue but the demo page search definitely works now

maybe on your own host or with zola serve, but the demo is still 404 for me, just go here and search for zola:

I see what you're saying about it only working with zola serve. I /think/ I have a solution to this problem but I won't actually know if it worked until my pull request gets merged.

Basically, I'm going to put the base_url from the config.toml into the head of the page in a tag like

<base href = {{ config.base_url }}>

then I'm going to access that base url from the tag within the js like this

const baseTag = document.querySelector("base");
const baseUrl = baseTag ? baseTag.href : null;
searchIndexUrl = baseUrl ? baseUrl + "search_index.en.json" : "/search_index.en.json";
console.log(searchIndexUrl);

With the console.log as a sanity check

Then hypothetically the actual base url will be fetched and not the github io
