[R/CRAN] What is the status and/or roadmap for supporting R/CRAN recipes? #615
Description
Summary: conda skeleton cran is no longer actively maintained, but grayskull cran is not fully functional yet. Is there a roadmap for improving the R/CRAN recipe generation?
Background:
- Initial support for R/CRAN recipes was added in grayskull (Generate recipe from Cran #7, [WIP]cran support #423)
grayskull cranis known to be lacking features ofconda skeleton cran([WIP]cran support #423 (comment))conda skeletonis unofficially deprecated. The PR to officially deprecateconda skeletonended up being closed (Mark conda-build skeleton as "Pending deprecation" conda-build#4640, Mark skeleton for deprecation. conda-build#4886), but users are being instructed to migrate to grayskull (Cannot get conda-build skeleton for projects on pypi that have with pyproject.toml. conda#12659)conda skeleton cranis starting to break. It no longer accepts a GitHub URL, which I know used to work years ago (Possible to work with archives beyond CRAN? bgruening/conda_r_skeleton_helper#68 (comment))- There are open Issues about the R/CRAN recipe support, but it is unclear if/when that support might be added (eg [FEATURE] Recipes for R-based packages from Github #532)
