OpenPrinting CUPS is the most current version of CUPS, a standards-based, open source printing system for Linux® and other Unix®-like operating systems. CUPS supports printing to:

AirPrint™ and IPP Everywhere™ printers,
Network and local (USB) printers with Printer Applications, and
Network and local (USB) printers with (legacy) PPD-based printer drivers.

Point:
Cups work for me only in a VM, but the Overhead für Cups is to much. Alpine LXC would be nice.

Would love to have a Helper Script for an easy installation of CUPS as LXC on Proxmox.
With CUPS you can have a easy Print Server to make the Printer accessable to every Device.
You can even make every Printer working with Airprint to print directly from your Iphone.
A must have for every Home Server, in my Opinion.

https://packages.debian.org/bookworm/cups

just apt-get install -y cups

its a project on github https://github.com/OpenPrinting/cups but like everything else Debian, slow to update to latest versions.
But yes, its the same CUPS server, serving a CUPS server with a dashboard

1. I made a new Debian LXC (Oldschool in Proxmox)
2. followed this install howto. https://wiki.debian.org/SystemPrinting

apt update && apt upgrade -y
apt-get install cups cups-client cups-bsd 
apt-get install hplip printer-driver-gutenprint
systemctl start cups
systemctl enable cups
cupsctl --share-printers  --remote-admin

3. there was no printer...

apt install usbutils
lsusb 

4. like other "Community-Scripts" LXC, i did the passthrough: (on the Proxmox Host)
   nano /etc/pve/lxc/xxx.conf
   add:

lxc.cgroup.devices.allow: c 189:* rwm
lxc.mount.entry: /dev/bus/usb/001/009 dev/bus/usb/001/009 none bind,optional,create=file

the Port Number is shown by lsusb
5. Now i can see the Printer in the Adminarea with the acc "root" and "saverootpassword"
5. Be Happy.

But i want a Alpine LXC for less Overhead.. but the debian lxc need just a little bit of power.. is okay i think.
