[Section 3.13 - Variáveis] Problema no terraform init

Seguindo os passos da sessão 3.13, tive o seguinte problema:

The Terraform configuration must be valid before initialization so that

Terraform can determine which modules and providers need to be installed.
Error: Missing newline after argument
On variables.tf line 1: An argument definition must end with a newline.

Está reclamando do arquivo variables.tf:

variable = "aws_region" {
    type = string
    description = ""
    default = "us-east-1"
}

variable1 = "aws_profile" {

    type = string
    description = ""
    default = "default"
}

Sinceramente não estou encontrando o problema.
