v3 global/default scale options?

I'm really struggling to figure out how to set a default value to turn off an Axis grid for all bar (or any) charts types.

have tried..

Chart.defaults.datasets.bar.scales.x.grid.display = false; 
Chart.overrides.bar.scales.x.grid.display = false; 

This works for x: Chart.overrides.bar.scales._index_.grid.display = false;
but.. not sure how to apply to y.

You will need to go into the Chart.defaults.scales property, there you can override the specific scale types, by default these are: category, linear, logarithmic, radialLinear, time and timeSeries. By default the x axis is category and y is linear so by overriding those 2 with your defaults you can set them, see example: https://jsfiddle.net/Leelenaleee/xco9nkLt/12/
