Multiple SDs one HA

I am attempting to use 2 stream decks, on 2 computers, addressing the same HA deployment.
Each SD has its own long-lived token.
My test case is of 2 configured buttons on each SD. On each machine the the matching buttons ( [1:1] say, the upper left )
The first SD (SD1) I configured successfully interacts with the HA instance. The little service light is up, the state of the SD buttons change to match the state of the HA Scene. great!
The second SD, was up with the same button configurations via export/import, and reconfigured with the second access token. ( hmm the only difference is that on SD2 I am on a second page )
SD 2 is only able to track the state changes. it cannot get a HA to respond to button presses.

Am I missing a concept? Where can I review logs for the authentication on both sides? Do I need another port for another webhook dealy?

Update -
one mac was running Sonoma, and was the first one with the SD attached. that's where the development was working fine. The HA buttons are on the 1st page.
The target mac is running Sequoia. A system update for the most recent vulnerabilities last night, and resetting the security permissions for the StreamDeck app enabled the buttons on the first page. HA buttons on the second page continued to be unresponsive, but moving them to the first SD page enabled them.

still would like to know about logging!
