Publish human readable versions in the snap store #2409

Description

What happened?

Doing an install of Ubuntu 23.10. I get this dialog:

image

  • Don't give me the package name "ubuntu-desktop-installer" - give me the human name "Ubuntu Desktop Installer"
  • Don't give me a git commit version number - that's horrible and doesn't give me any confidence whether I need to click this or not. How on earth do I as a new user know what this all means!?

What was expected?

Tell me there's a new version, which has a human readable / decipherable name.

Or even just say there's an update, and a big button. I don't really need to know what that version number is. I'm almost 100% never going to go and look it up.

Steps to reproduce

Install Ubuntu from the official media.
Click through to the "Update available" screen.
