Get TextInput ref

Hello, I am trying to get the TextInput ref to programmatically set the selection prop but cannot do so, I am getting this error:

Warning: Function components cannot be given refs. Attempts to access this ref will fail.
Did you mean to use React.forwardRef()?%s%s, 

How can one get the ref to the TextInput element?
