[BUG] Dark Mode setting not kept across application restarts

Current Behavior

I flick the Dark Mode switch and it works, but both the switch and the actual appearance are reset when you close the app window and launch it again.

Expected Behavior

The Dark mode should be permanent across restarts.

Steps To Reproduce

I tested with latest version (1.8.17) on Windows 11, installed through Chocolatey.
Same behavior with 1.8.14 installed through Winget.

Environment

- Windows Version: Windows 11 24H2 (build 26100.3775)
- WSL Distro Manager Version: 1.8.17
- WSL Version: 2.5.1.0
- Source: Chocolatey/Winget
