The problem

Hi,

I'm calling the "/v2/send" endpoint to send a message in a group, and I get a successful return. I see the message in my group, but other users don't see it...
Do you have any idea of what could be the issue?

Same problem!

The same user can see my message in one group, but not in another group.

Is there any difference between those groups? Were the groups created by the REST API? Do you see the messages in the group (via the API)?

What you could also try: Switch to the normal mode and enable the debug mode. Do you see anything suspicious there?

While I was troubleshooting, I performed quite a lot of manipulations. Everything is working fine now, but I can’t say for sure what exactly helped.

Here are my observations:

Chat 1, where another user couldn’t see my messages, was in temporary messages mode with a 5-minute timer. Only I could see my messages, while other users could not.

Chat 2 with permanent messages had two users who were untrusted. However, in this case I was clearly receiving an error message when sending. I added the users to the trusted list, and now everyone in the chat can see my messages, and I no longer get an error.

I also tried downgrading to versions 0.93, 0.92, and 0.85, but I wasn’t able to link any of them as a new device after scanning the QR code, so I had to return to the latest version (0.94). In other words, I restarted the application (the Docker container). After that, the users I had added to the trusted list (from my mobile Signal app) no longer triggered the untrusted error, and in the chat that used to be temporary but is now permanent, the other user was able to see my messages.

To summarize briefly:

• Disabled temporary messages (chat 1)
• Accepted untrusted users (chat 2)
• Restarted the container (signal-cli-rest-api:latest)
