Mobile friendly number input without the up/down chevron

trying to use the first example from here

I'd like to disable the up/down chevrons that a desktop user sees b/c it hides the number more often than not.
Entry is primarily on a mobile where somehow it is hidden, but the design is quite wide.

Ideally, looking for a mobile friendlier version of this first snippet.
