Larger display?

Hi what would be the guidance for adding a larger display? Is the display interface a standard or specific to the originally used one?

BTW I love the single board form factor. The only thing I changed was the speaker connector so that the [plug] does not extend past the board boundary. Also shortened the speaker cable. But this thing really begs for a larger (and tilted) display,

I like what you did to minimise the speaker wire!

If I remember from the Crowd Supply campaign and updates, @cgreening seemed to think that this was already pushing what could be done with a 320x240 screen. I can't for the life of me find the page / newsletter update / blog post / video where he said that though, so maybe it is in my head.

I know there was some experimentation with and potentially prototyping of a RP2350-based DVI out expansion, which I'm interested to try sometime.

In principle doing something to tilt the existing screen would be doable, it's just stuck down onto the board, but you'd obviously want to be careful with the amount the ribbon connector would be twisted. A small 3D printed wedge could work nicely.

Replacing the screen is doable - but you'd probably need to go via the expansion port. Pretty much all displays have completely random ribbon cable pinouts - so it's not easy to do a straight swap there.

But all the signals are broken out on the expansion port so you could hook something up there - you'd then need to do a custom firmware build with your screen resolution.

There is a bit of trade off, we can only push pixels out so quickly, so you will probably lose frames with a high res display.

The other problem is some higher res display use multiple pins instead of just 4 wire SPI.

So, it's doable, but tricky.

Tilting the screen is probably straightforward - just be careful. The double sided tape that holds it in place can be loosened using 99% IPA.
