Limited SIA radius?

I don't find any such limit in the spec (https://www.ivoa.net/documents/SIA/20151223/REC-SIA-2.0-20151223.html), is this really necessary?
(My naive use case was to see if a collection had any data in it, so wanted to do as big of a search as possible, very naive approach, but still, I suppose (almost) all sky queries should be allowed at the library level?

The maximal search radius is a property of the service; there is the maxQueryRegionSize item in the SIA Registry extension to declare it https://ivoa.net/documents/SimpleDALRegExt/20220222/REC-SimpleDALRegExt-1.2.html#tth_sEc3.2.3 So, stricly speaking the fixed radius limit is either too loose or too tight. Except that most real SIA implementations probably have pgsphere under the hood, and for that the 90 deg are exactly right (where lifting that limit would be a worthwhile project, too). Since SIA1 services have no standard way to get the capability from the service itself, I'd say let's not sweat this. For SIA2, "just give me some data" is a lot simpler anyway: Just do a request with only MAXREC=1. To retrieve a record from a SIA1 service, I'm afraid you will have to go to the Registry and hope for the best. The extension provides for a testQuery element (but that's optional). If you have a service's ivoid, you can figure these out on RegTAP services by a query like select * from rr.res_detail where detail_xpath like '/capability/testQuery%' and ivoid='ivo://nasa.heasarc/skyview/sdssdr7'
