Description
Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe.
While recent updates (such as those found in issue #1160 ) are helping to clarify and improve the labeling around statuses, right now users still must find the (i) info icons in status columns to reveal a legend explaining what each status means, and not all users will find these hidden legends in a timely manner. This can make it frustrating for new users to understand the outcome of ingest attempts.
Describe the solution you'd like
This issue proposes two enhancements to improve the usability of status labels:
- Include the related icons used in Status tabs in the labels themselves, to better reinforce the association and make visual scanning quicker
- When they appear outside of legends, add hover help text to labels that will display the definition of the term - essentially allowing someone to see the legend's definition for that term without having to first find and expand the legend itself.
Describe alternatives you've considered
- Considered making the legends permanently expanded / visible, but they add too much additional noise to each page, distracting from the statuses that are actually conveying outcomes on a page
- Could also make the legend permanently pinned on browse pages in the ALL tab, and then include each label and its definition as a header above the results table in each tab. While the second part of this idea could still be combined with the proposal actually included here, overall this idea still seems to add more noise to each page that helps new users but may become a distraction to operators over time
Additional context
Was imagining that the hover definition for status labels would appear similar to the hover help text shown on the "copy" widget that is next to UUIDs
