Scanning speed increase ?

Wouldn't it be possible to speed up the scanning speed by not refreshing the display on the screen, which is unreadable during a scan anyway?

Just a guess: the screen does not affect scanning speed much, but the channel name and setting lookups from eeprom might. Therefore it could possibly be faster if we first generate a list of frequencies to scan, check each one for activity, then load tones/squelch, then load rest of settings if squelch opens...

Or maybe just cache everything in memory?

@chris4git, the screen refresh isn’t the bottleneck, @prokrypt is right — the real limitation comes from the signal acquisition speed of the BK4819 chip. If we reduce the scanning delay below ~90 ms, we start losing signals, especially weaker ones.

@prokrypt, regarding cache, even though it's not the core of the problem, it's worth keeping in mind that the DP32G030 only has 8 KB of SRAM. That memory has to hold all variables and runtime data used by the firmware during execution, so there's very limited space for things like caching mechanisms.
