Tweaks for Foxhunting

Two ideas for tweaks to make the UV-K5 even better as a tool for Radio Direction Finding (RDF) or Foxhunting....

1. The RSSI (Received Signal Strength Indicator) works great for help with direction finding - however the font size is so small it makes its use more difficult. If there could be a display mode to make the RSSI level displayed in a much larger font size (like as large as the numbers showing the FREQUENCY) - it would be much easier to see with just a quick glance (and I wouldn't need to keep putting my reading glasses on and off....)
2. The addition of an RDF Beacon or Foxhunt Transmitter mode that periodically sends a CW message (CW tones over an FM carrier). This would allow the radio to be used as a standalone Foxhunt transmitter. Would need a way to set-up/enter a changeable short message and Call sign. TX for 15 to 30 seconds, then pause. Would need a changeable parameter to TX every 30 seconds or 1 minute, 2 minutes, etc. There is another firmware out there that says it does this, but I have been unable to load and test that firmware.

Hi Roger,

1. If you want the RSSI level displayed in a much larger font size, check this: from RxMode menu, select MAIN ONLY. From SetMet menu, select CLASSIC. And from SetGUI menu select CLASSIC.

2. I have no idea how to do what you're asking, as I don't have the skills (for the moment...).
