Renaming Games / Allow manual identification

Hi, as far as I can see, it is not possible to rename uploded ROMs?
And it is not possible to add game information, if the ROM name did not have a match in the ROM database?
And it is not possible to export game state saves and import them after a ROM was reuploaded with a new name?

And I am using the docker version: Why are ROMs not really deleted but just marked as deleted in the database? Could I manually edit the datebase to update the game information and the name?

We don't support ROM renaming and state exporting/importing. Those seem to be relatively rare use cases.

Game information now can be edited with the unstable tagged Docker image. It will be released as latest later.

The deletion strategy is just a technical choice, see soft delete vs hard delete - Google. Of course you can manually maintain the SQLite file as you like. When doing so it's better to backup it first.

Sure, there is no need to rename the ROM, since it's name does not correspond with the local filename during the upload. I did not mean "to rename the ROM file itself", but since it seems to use the name of the file I have chosen during the upload, for me as a user it looks like the "ROM". And since I cannot rename a Game (only the Publisher can), I talk about the name of the Library Entry.

And okay, you can say "we make a soft delete". But why is the application lying to me? When you make a decision, you should implement it. But do so consistently and transparently for the user.

"Cannot be restored" means that the items cannot be restored through the UI with the clicks provided by this program.

It’s similar to when operating systems ask "Are you sure you want to permanently empty the trash".

While Windows and macOS both have mechanisms to recover deleted files with "File History"(Windows) and "Time Machine"(macOS), or specialized software (e.g., Recuva, DMDE), their recycle bins/trash work in this way as well.

I said the application is lying to me, and I do not understand, how that is not respectful. And there is still no argument, why the application is not transparent about its behaviour, and why it makes a soft-delete but claims that recovery is not possible, while the ability for recovery is the main reason for soft-delete...

And how does whataboutism with backups and possibly recovery (use an SSD with Trim and go for Recuva...) contribute to a discussion?
