DNS server on tasmota32c3

The DNS servers are not being saved upon restart when programming tasmota 32c3 (I am using this for Shelly 1 Gen 3). Tried to force the DNS servers via IPaddress4/5 but same issue. DNS1 and 2 are written but change back to 0.0.0.0 upon restart. Thank you in anticipation for any possible solutions.

This has only happened sine 14.6.0, it works fine with 14.5.0. It also appears to affect all variants of ESP32, not just EPS32-C3. It still works perfectly on 8266 and its variants.
Why this got bumped down to be a discussion when it's a genuine bug I'll never know!

The issue has happened way back than 14.6.0 (at least from 14.1.0.3 if i remember well)
and I'm pretty sure it has something to do (and by) exchanging between dev and release or the opposite.
I'm going to open this as an issue because even restoring a config with the correct DNS servers doesn't work.
DNS servers always at 0.0.0.0.

Zooming in on old commits, I found that the fix for this PR is the first one where saved IPAddress values for DNS servers are zeroed next boot. #23115

Check done with incremental "unofficial" precompiled tasmota32s3-qio_opi.bin binaries.

Same issue there. Since 14.6, on esp32 (esp8266 dont have the issue), the dns servers are not saved after restart.

Here is some background of what I did, thay may help you to track the issue.
I have an Astra R4 (DIN) device (ESP Chip Id 7174216 - ESP32-D0WD v1.0) that was running v12.3.1 (or maybe 12.3.0, dont remember).
After many failed attempt, to auto upgrade, i finally found in a GH discussion (BTW Documentation lacks some clear information about that) explaining that i had to first upgrade the partions layout. I followed the advices:

• I succefully upgraded to tasmota32-ir (14.6) first, then uploaded the partion wizard.
• Tried the partition wizard, that showed that the safeboot was also upgraded to 14.6, but did not succed to do the next steps.
• After may attemps, i finally understood that the dns servers were no longer set, and any attempt to set it (ipaddress4, ipaddress5, restart) was cleared on restart, thus making it impossible to use the partition wizard.
• I then manually uploaded a tasmota-display 13.0 (to get rid of those strange "IR received" messages spamming the logs): This worked. DNS servers were OK, then I finally succeded to use the partition wizard.
• Then i re-tried to upgrade to 14.6, which worked, but still impossible to get stored DNS servers to survive to a reboot.
• I finally manually uploaded a 14.5 version, that works with DNS servers, as it should.

So maybe the 14.6 DNS issue could be related to those who had to use the partition wizard ?

Same here, restoring the config (with correct DNS servers), into 14.6. revert the DNSs to 0.0.0.0, and setting it dont survive a reboot

No, it is not related to the Partition Wizard, as posted above I isolated which PR caused the regression. Pushed with version 14.5.0.2

BTW, regarding the Partition wizard procedure( + lighter firmware) to be able to upgrade an ESP32, it would certainly desserve some documentation... May be there:.

I feel like an idiot, but where can I find these historical incremental precompiled binaries (either esp32 or esp8266) ?

The precompiled firmware builds for the Tasmota Web Installer (for the last two years) are stored as releases in https://github.com/tasmota/install
Each release has a date, SHA and links to the commit triggering the build of new binaries. The build output is stored as assets under the release. Covers both ESP8266 and ESP32 variants, for both release, development and unofficial.

I used the Github API to download structured data for releases, selected the relevant binary, to get to having a simple list of file names to try updating to. Only took a few tries (with binary search) to narrow down. Did not download first, but due to the nature of the issue, I could not resolve DNS from Tasmota, hence I proxied the links via an in-house server.

While the OTA server has the latest development and release builds, it does not provide incremental development builds back in time.

That's why I based the tracking on the server having archived binaries for the Tasmota Web Installer, over 1800 generations, while the OTA site "only" has 13 releases for the same period of two years.

OTOH, if you want to go far back in time, the OTA site does have about 7 years of history, albeit less granular.
