WiFi.hostname("MKR1000") function has no effects

I'm trying to set a custom hostname to my MKR1000 board, the default one is: "*"
I'm doing the following:

  WiFi.hostname("MKR1000");
  // Connect to WPA/WPA2 network returns the status
  status = WiFi.begin(ssid, pass);

But this has no effect and the device name is still "*"
