Subject: Potential Bug in Pontem Mobile Wallet Affecting Seed Phrase Recovery
Dear Aptos Team,
I’m writing to report a potential bug I’ve encountered with the Pontem Mobile Wallet, which seems to have affected my ability to recover my original wallet address on the Aptos blockchain. Below, I’ve detailed the entire situation for your review, as it has puzzled me for over a year and may indicate an issue with wallet implementations.
Background
Initial Setup: Over a year ago (early 2023), I created a wallet using the Petra Wallet extension on Chrome. I wrote down the 12-word Seed Phrase displayed by Petra on a single piece of paper, which I’ve kept in a secure location (a drawer) ever since. This Seed Phrase generated my original address:
0x94fde0512e0f53e8255d0f60b768f5054689808ad8dfecbcbd99f67d5218650a
I successfully used this address across Petra, Pontem (desktop), and Martian wallets, and all showed the same address, confirming the Seed Phrase was correct. My assets remain in this address, as verified on Aptos Explorer.
Pontem Mobile Issue: At some point in early 2023, Pontem released an Android mobile version. Excited to try it, I downloaded it from the official source and entered my Seed Phrase (the same one written on my paper). Surprisingly, it generated a different address:
0x527282d16f4c46ca634df05b50db7ef66fad22f3d62a017361ae908ea0d5eac4
I didn’t think much of it at the time since I still had access to my original Petra wallet, so I uninstalled the Pontem mobile app and continued using Petra.
Petra Reset: Later, after a Chrome update, my Petra extension reset. I re-entered the same Seed Phrase from my paper, expecting to recover my original address (0x94fde...). Shockingly, it generated the same new address as Pontem Mobile (0x527282...). This was the first sign something was seriously wrong.
Further Testing: I tested the same Seed Phrase across other wallets:
Rise Wallet: Generated the same new address (0x527282...).
Fewcha Wallet: Generated a completely different address (not shared here), suggesting a possible Derivation Path variation.
I’ve confirmed with a Petra developer on Discord that Petra generates only one address per Seed Phrase, while Pontem can create multiple accounts with different paths.
Key Observations
I’m absolutely certain I’ve only ever had one piece of paper with one Seed Phrase, written the day I created my Petra wallet. I’ve never rewritten it, altered it, or used a different one. It’s been in the same drawer since day one.
The Seed Phrase I currently have (which I’ve tested and confirmed generates 0x527282... with the standard Aptos Derivation Path m/44'/637'/0'/0'/0') does not match my original address (0x94fde...), where my assets are.
Up until the Pontem Mobile incident, all wallets (Petra, Pontem desktop, Martian) consistently showed my original address (0x94fde...) with this Seed Phrase.
Hypothesis
I suspect a bug in the Pontem Mobile Wallet (early 2023 version) may have incorrectly processed my original Seed Phrase, generating an erroneous address (0x527282...). After uninstalling it, when Petra reset and I re-entered the same Seed Phrase, it somehow replicated this incorrect address instead of my original one. This behavior then persisted across Rise and Pontem, while Fewcha produced yet another address, possibly due to a different Derivation Path.
Request
Could you please investigate whether there was a known issue with Pontem Mobile (or other wallets) around early 2023 that could cause a Seed Phrase to generate an incorrect address? If my original Seed Phrase was correct and should produce 0x94fde..., why do multiple wallets now consistently produce 0x527282... with it? Any insight or assistance in recovering my original address would be greatly appreciated, as this has been a mystery occupying my mind for over a year.
Thank you for your time and support!

Update:
I'm not sure bug is related to pontem or petra!
I’ve realized that I created my Petra wallet on the exact day of the Aptos mainnet launch, October 18, 2022, just two hours after the mainnet went live. This was two days before Petra reported a bug in their wallet (https://x.com/PetraWallet/status/1583235962317852672), where the displayed Seed Phrase could be incorrect during account creation. I believe I may have been affected by this bug, as I likely viewed or re-wrote my Seed Phrase during that time, leading to an incorrect Seed Phrase being recorded. This could explain why my current Seed Phrase generates 0x527282... instead of my original address 0x94fde..., where my assets are. Can you confirm if this bug could have caused my issue, and if there’s any way to recover my original address? @GotenJBZ @Petrawallet
