• pekko 1.0 supports netty 3 - artery is preferred
• pekko 1.1 supports netty 4.1 - artery is still preferred
• pekko 1.2 will support netty 4.2 - artery is still preferred
• there is no guarantee that netty support will be removed in pekko 2.0 - pekko 2.0 is not yet under development and there are Pekko users who like netty (eg Apache Flink) and we've had a few users looking for support with netty issues

netty 4 replaces netty 3 in pekko 1.1 - we have release notes that you can read

Pekko Remote and/or Cluster users who use Netty instead of Aeron should note that we now support Netty 4 instead of Netty 3. It is recommended that you run some tests before you go into production with this new release.

The release doc suggests 4 is replacing the 3, could you point me to a PR where the netty is upgraded? I couldn't find it from the 1.1.0 milestone: https://github.com/apache/pekko/milestone/7?closed=1
