Multiselectdropdown: showing the selected value in multiple lines

I would like to show the list of selected values as a multi line text, rather than a single line of text containing one long string.

Instead of this:

I would like this:

I have tried this:

from anvil_extras.MultiSelectDropDown import MultiSelectDropDown
def format_selected_text(self, count, total):
    return '\n'.join(self.selected_keys)

and this:

from anvil_extras.MultiSelectDropDown import MultiSelectDropDown
def format_selected_text(self, count, total):
    return '<br>'.join(self.selected_keys)

But the new line in the former snippet is ignored, while the <br> in the latter is escaped.

Any suggestion?
