How to set a dark theme?

Hello,

I'm using niri that came with CachyOS. There are apps like LibreOffice and Thunar that I'd like to have a dark theme for, but changing the GTK_THEME variable doesn't seem to do anything. If I run them with the command GTK_THEME=Adwaita:dark thunar, it does work. I could make aliase for these apps, but is there a simpler way to enforce a theme for all apps that use it?

I think adding gtk-application-prefer-dark-theme=1 to ~/.config/gtk-3.0/settings.ini should work.

I had gtk-application-prefer-dark-theme=true in both gtk-3 and gtl-4 settings.ini, and tried changing both to 1, but it didn't help. Changing gtk-theme-name in either also has no effect.

I have all three portals installed, dconf read /org/gnome/desktop/interface/color-scheme returns 'prefer-dark', and all the files in https://yalter.github.io/niri/Getting-Started.html#manual-installation exist and seem to be configured correctly (although they are simply in /usr/bin and /usr/share, this is the way the install came with CachyOS).

Also noticed that Nautilus does have dark theme.
