Shortcuts (.lnk) in custom scenery

X-Plane 11 reads Windows shortcuts (.lnk files) in the _Custom Scenery_ folder just fine, and loads the targeted libraries or sceneries. Why is it that WED does not do so, but instead requires at least symbolic links to _Custom Scenery external_ folders ?

If possible, please implement this functionality.
