Mangrove Fisheries Enhancement Data

The mangrove fisheries enhancement data can be downloaded here: https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.14965669 (Prediction shapefiles). We'll want to have separate layers for finfish, crabs, prawns (shrimp) and bivalves and as much as we can, echo the symbology from the publication: https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.14965669 with areas of no value grayed out. The unit on the map legend is # of individuals/100 m2

Country statistics are here -- we have statistics for country abundance and average density. Could be nice to visualize both, but if we have to make a choice we'd go with abundance.

Wording can be:

(for density) “In [Country], mangroves enhance commercial fishery production of [Finfish/Prawns/Crab/Bivalves] by an average of xxx individuals/100m2 (10mx10m)”

Overview:
This map displays the modelled density of commercially important prawn species due to the presence of mangrove ecosystems. The model was fit using expert-identified drivers of mangrove fish and invertebrate density and data from published field studies from around the world. Mangrove area, sea surface salinity, sea surface temperature, tidal amplitude, mangrove edge, change in extent, net primary productivity, sampling method, and mangrove geomorphic type were identified as key variables determining density. A model was created for three species of prawn determined to be both mangrove-affiliated and commercially important. Estimates of density are displayed in units of individuals per 100m2 (10m x 10m) and refer to juvenile and resident prawn. Predictions are only available for the Indian Ocean, Red Sea, and Western Pacific due to a lack of field data from other regions.

Hi @mluena and fyi @dhakelila and @lhilarides - I just reviewed the draft fisheries widget and we have a few comments:

• In the widget, when it says “showing combined density for all species on map”, the legend doesn’t seem to reflect that (shows fish). We don't need the map to show the combined density, just the option to have users switch between different categories (finfish, crab, bivalve, shrimp). Let's use finfish instead of fish to avoid confusion
• Legend header currently says “showing density for fish” should instead say “Commercial finfish productivity (per 100 m2)
• Maybe you don't do this until later, but we'll need to add an info button with the metadata included in the above comment
• The wording in the widget needs fixing. “In [Country], mangroves enhance commercial fishery production of [Finfish/Prawns/Crab/Bivalves] by an average of xxx individuals/100m2 (10mx10m)”. When the widget opens, the dropdown should default to finfish values and users can select between the four options using the dropdown.
• We decided to only include density values (not # of individuals), so please make sure you're only using values from the COUNTRY_DENSITY table
• Under each of the different fishery category icon, the unit below the density value should be xxx individuals/100m2 (10mx10m)

We also noticed that the mangrove fisheries map layer (the older one related to fishing intensity) has an offset from the fisheries production layer if you have them both on. Can you adjust the fishing intensity data so it snaps to the fish production layer? I can also do this on my end and send you a new fisheries production layer if you'd like.

We really like the option to toggle the maps by clicking on the icons!

thanks @lyubovpencheva, a few notes (FYI @dhakelila @lhilarides)

• When I first enable the map from the widget, it's not clear on the legend that it's showing just finfish. (i.e., on the header, it just says Commercial Fisheries Production). It's not until I select another category from the dropdown that it shows the appropriate legend header for the associated species group. In other words, the expected behavior is that when I turn on the map layer in the widget, I should see the text "Commercial finfish productivity (per 100 m2) in the legend.
  -I'm also still observing that the mangrove fisheries map layer (the older one related to fishing intensity) has an offset from the fisheries production layer if you have them both on.
