Entities that are part of a longer entity identified by an abbreviation should be excluded #85

There are examples where entities are observed as part of a larger entity that was identified by an abbreviation.

For example, in the sentence fragment below, mineral was identified as a chemical entity:

Osteoporosis is described by deterioration in bone microarchitecture, resulting in decreased bone mineral density (BMD), increased bone fragility ...

  1. We should exclude mineral from being identified as it is likely too general to be useful
  2. Presumably bone mineral density was identified as the long form of an abbreviation, so we should be able to use that information to exclude a chemical that only covers part of the long form. I had thought we were doing this, but evidently we are not.
