How to effectively transfer learn?

How would I effectively transfer learn from a past model? Would I upload the same last base model when resuming training or would I upload the newest last trained model? Anymore information would be helpful. On an unrelated note I fined that force stopping the dreambooth training automatically converts the unfinished ckpt model when I clearly dont want it to.
