Would it be worth to use terminfo terminal control sequences for terminals that don't identify as "screen" or a variant of "xterm"?
I'd be extremely happy if I could use modern programs in vintage computer terminals that do not support ANSI sequences (interestingly enough, xterm and its derivatives don't support some attributes Rich generates - overline is one of them), and there is ongoing work to add Sixel graphics (not supported at all by most terminal programs, but supported in a lot of the DEC and similar physical units) to many popular terminal libraries.
