Enhance the existing motor buton box, rebuild it or build something new so that mechinical and electircal folks can test brushless motors. Best may be to enhance the existing motor control box or rebuild it. If it stays with a Arduino PWM design, get code from Bruce or there is likely a copy of the code on a USB stick in the motor control box. May in the Arduino case itself.
