[TanStack Start] Examples are outdated

The examples are outdated and don't reflect the newest TanStack Start APIs and best practices. What can be done?

can you please be more specific what isn't up-to-date?

you can have a look at the e2e tests for start that are kept updated: https://github.com/TanStack/router/tree/main/e2e/start/
we'll eventually also update the examples, if you want to help, PRs welcome!

I was also looking at those examples but then thought that given we have server functions, what's the benefit of tRPC in TSS? I used tRPC before in Nextjs but it seems TSS server functions cover most of it with a simplified API. Anything I'd still be missing out on?

Yes, see this discussion: #3474. You're missing out on the powerful APIs of TanStack Query. Server functions are in their infancy right now, but the marketing behind them is pretty solid and compelling.

@schiller-manuel it looks like even though there's been releases to alpha, that https://github.com/TanStack/router/blob/main/e2e/react-start/server-functions/app.config.ts is no longer the way to create a tan stack start app.

A few questions:

• Are the alpha releases deployed from the main branch ?
• if so, then What e2e tests are being used in PRs that merge to main ?
  • from my perspective, it's not the above, evidenced by the presence of the app.config.ts

no, from the alpha branch. we'll soon merge alpha to main

when merging a PR to main, right now still app.config.ts is required.
as soon as we merged alpha to main, then it's just a vite.config.ts
