Caption of figure directive adds additional text

• sphinx version: 2.4.4
• conf.py fragment: language = 'de'

Expected behavior

.. figure:: media/image9j.jpg
   :align: center
   :scale: 70%

   Erstes  Bild

should show the following caption:
Abb. 1 Erstes Bild

Actual behavior

The caption is:
Figure: Abb. 1 Erstes Bild

With >= v4.4 'Figure:' isn't prepended any more. I'm just wondering where this 'Abb.' is coming from. Still need to test that.
