Best way to enter additional unicode characters e.g. Ellipsis, EmDash and EnDash?

What is the best way to enter frequently-used Unicode characters? For example Ellipsis, EmDash and EnDash characters? Also, currency symbols.
Currently, in W7, I copy/paste them from a (pre-prepared) Notepad file, into SE's Text Box.
Is there a better way than this? I am unable to remember keyboard Unicode numbers let alone type them in quickly!

Unfortunately the list of available Unicode characters from SE's menu do not include the ones mentioned (or is there a way to add further characters to that list?)

BTW: I choose to use plain-dashes for hyphenated words, Emdash (—) for breaks/tangents in speech, EnDash (–) for different speakers in conversation. And ellipses for… well…

You can edit the Unicode symbols in Settings.xml.;

And we now have a new custom shortcut in latest beta:

Yes that works for me.
In my case, using the non-portable variant of SE, I found the relevant Settings.XML file at:
C:\Users<username>\AppData\Roaming\Subtitle Edit

...and the Textbox shortcut setting in the (extremely-new) Beta version is much appreciated.
