DD burn on Rufus impeccably installed SpiralLinux – an appreciation.

After a long hiatus from using SpiralLinux (test driving mostly KDE Neon Plasma 6), picking up from this experience, decided to “burn” the latest available SpiralLinux .iso with Rufus and DD option (as opposed to recommended). Installation went flawlessly!

Here, a list of quirks experienced with KDE Neon Plasma mostly used over the past year that are resolved with SpiralLinux:

1. Standby mode works as expected (KDE seemed never to wake anymore as before);
2. Clicking on email links in Thunderbird, not only opens appropriate browser page, but also brings them to the fore in Firefox (they opened in KDE but not bring pages to the fore). Often use Vivaldi on Linux with its integrated email client to overcome this issue.
3. Calling up for new wallpapers always goes to “recent” (with many choices!) instead of “most downloaded” and limited to choice of 4 or 5 in KDE (and others);
4. ZRAM shows up, no Swap in KDE (and other distros) when automatic install is chosen.
5. Overall system usage is like half of other KDE distros.

Do miss however JamesDSP (works fine in KDE Neon 6.3 etc.) Flatpak for sound quality improvements. It should work for Debian 12 systems.

Do have affection for Vivaldi and would like to resolve Krunner issue when choosing web search engine. A query opens Vivaldi (when set as default) but not to search result. Update: Krunner now works well with Vivaldi when set as default browser. Maybe a reboot had something to do with this.

Otherwise, while missing a few niceties KDE Neon has come up with over the last year, I am a happy camper at rediscovering SpiralLinux and hope others will come to appreciate it too!

In the Wiki I discourage the use of Rufus because it has so many options that can lead to failure for inexperienced users. But good to know that it can work if used correctly.

Actually, after a few unsuccessful tries with KDE Neon (wasn't always like that), read somewhere that DD was the way to go.
And it did.
So, figured i'd do same for SpiralLinux 'n see.
Worked out just fine.
