Installation at Windows

Hi,

I am trying to install pySpinW on Windows. However, I am not able to do it. I am trying to use docker from an anaconda console. It is the best way? I have no license of Matlab.

Hi @Dsubires12 ah, we're currently working on a new distribution of pySpinW as the current one hasn't been updated in a while.

In the mean time, because I needed to create a Python distribution for another program which was also written in Matlab and also needed SpinW, I made a different distribution called pace-neutrons maybe you can try to install this? You first need to install the Matlab Compiler Runtime version 2020b (on Windows [on Linux it is 2020a]). Then create a new conda environment with Python 3.7 or 3.8 (only those two versions currently have built packages). Then activate that environment and do pip install pace-neutrons in it. This should work, but if it doesn't try to install the dependencies with conda instead of pip (conda install scipy matplotlib).

Once this is done, you can do: from pace_neutrons import Matlab; m = Matlab(); swobj = m.spinw() and you should be able to run most spinw commands as is. There are some quirks due to the conversion from Matlab to Python (most from interpreting lists / arrays) which should be fixed in future versions. Examples here.
