Background: jupyter lab left beta a couple of months ago. It will probably replace the current frontend. And it requires several changes for extensions to work.

In the long run we will drop the current frontend and only support jupyter lab.

But before we can migrate, we need to know when the sdil platform will support jupyter lab.

there might not be an sdil-issue, because user can just install jupyter lab via conda, maybe
