We need a population percent share to show on the comparison bar chart, and also to be able to calculate the
pct_relative_inequity
for the inequities over time chart. We currently do not have this data for one of the CAWP race/ethnicity groups: MENA / Middle Eastern & North African. There has been ongoing discussion at the US Census regarding adding "MENA" as a unique classification, but for now and for over a century they've been counted as "White".We should address this gap in the data and the call to action to fix it (by adding MENA to the census)
Meanwhile, we have the potential opportunity to provide a comparison population nationally and by state for MENA by using the "ancestry" section of the US Census. This seems to be done by several sources including this article from MigrationPolicy.org. In that article they describe the standardized countries they aggregate for MENA:
The US Census 2019 ACS Ancestry data, to the state level, is here: https://data.census.gov/table?q=B04006:+PEOPLE+REPORTING+ANCESTRY&g=0100000US,$0400000&tid=ACSDT5Y2019.B04006&moe=false
