MCP Server per Mode

I have several MCP Servers which are specific to some custom modes and provide a lot of resources. Currently all are included in the generated prompted. I would like to configure (or at least enable) per Mode. Best would be a mode specific file like .clinerules-code_mcp_settings.json (similar to.clinerules-code`). That would also allow to commit and share MCP Server configuration for improved team collaboration .

I love this idea. One approach could be to add a list of allowedMcpServers to the custom mode definitions?

Completely agree - I came here to request granular control of what MCP servers were available in specific modes. I think mode configurations in the workspace should be additive but also overwrite existing modes in the users cline_custom_modes.json

another reason why I see the whole mcp setting inside the workspace is that many mcp servers store specific values for parameters (specific paths that they need access to, some specific token for an app, etc.)

If we can have a workspace specific mcp settings file, that gets merged with the global one, that would allow us to have a very flexible setup.

@mrubens This PR is for project-level MCPs, but not for mode-level MCPs.
I love the idea as well! Configuring your custom modes in a .roomodes file is just perfect and the file also records which actions the agent mode can perform (read/write files, browse etc.) but I would really love an addtional config option where I can specify the mcp servers that the mode has access to in order to not pollute the context window with dozens of unnecessary MCP server definitions and keep the LLM focussed.

This is much needed, with the explosion of mcp servers out there.
I was thinking that similarly to how we support edit, we could so something similar for mcp:
