Not much to report on beta 4, no updating library step. I do see a few messages in the logs that are new, but honestly no visible impact or improvement to Photos itself. |

Quick note:
I had an unused old m1 mini, decided to put Tahoe on it. It's attached via HDMI to an OLED HDR 4k TV.
Turns out, Photos on Tahoe finally supports viewing of HDR photos... in HDR. Now, the HDR doesn't (yet) show unless the photo is shown full screen, but once it is, boom HDR.
The HDR source in this case was a RAW file I brought into an older version of LrC, then exported as AVIF.
Still don't know if it can be edited or not, but it at least looks like Photos has the extra "room to the right" a la LrC. But no HDR button or anything as obvious as that.
Don't know the files formats supported either. I did open up a gain-mapped JPG and it looks like it may be working as well, but unsure to be honest (it was made from a very old 4MP JPG).
Also don't know if this extends all the way through the ecosystem yet either (screen savers, Apple TV, etc). But I'm stoked to see at least some progress within Photos now. I have read that Safari and Preview support HDR fully but yet to test that out.
Lots lots more going on in analysis in Tahoe, I've seen references to transcript from video files, music detection, speaker detection and so on. It's still not done with analysis so I'll wait a while before seeing what's up.
There was another note here about captions being generated for videos and while I forget where I found it in Sequoia , I did find captions for assets somewhere within the spotlight datastore as plain text - they were not in a database. I was going to write a script to extract all of them but lost track of that idea.
I do want to try my analysis on the scores like I did a couple years back to see how things have changed, so I appreciate the updates to make it work with Tahoe but I'm going to let things settle first - it had been doing analysis full bore overnight but now it's spooked and hasn't started up again, and I think it's nowhere near complete.
The M1 mini is old enough that I'm not sure that its HDR output is as up to date as my M4 (HDMI and other factors) but there's no way I'm loading Tahoe onto my m4 until it's fully baked...
