FanControl randomly just closes

For a start: Thank you so much for this app, I just love it! But for a while now, FanControl just sometimes randomly closes. It ends with:

"C:\Program Files (x86)\FanControl\FanControl.exe" with return code 2147942401.

This, according to our friend ChatGPT is:

• 2147942401 in hex is 0x80070001. The 0x8007 prefix means “Win32 error code wrapped in an HRESULT,” and the last part (0001) is the actual Win32 code.
• Win32 error 1 = ERROR_INVALID_FUNCTION: That’s Windows-speak for “The function call you tried is not supported.”

Weird thing is, that other .NET based apps, such as PowerToys also close. So the cause might not be (but still could be) FanControl, but related to something they have in common. However: the eventlog is completely empty around the times this happen.

The result of it stopping like this, is that the fans stay at the speed they are at the moment of crashing. So if this happens at PC idle, and then start a game, things will get very hot.

Is there anything I could to do debug this a bit more?

That's a very generic error.

Most likely one of the sensor source is responsible. You could try to eliminate all sensor sources you are not actually using and see if that narrows it down.

Any suggestions on what sensor not to use? Or how to debug what is causing it?
