First of all I would like to say a BIG thank you for creating such a wonderful and user-friendly piece of software that FanControl is. I started using it earlier this year [2025] because the Asus GPU Tweak III software that I have been using for the last 8 years or so was causing many problems on my Windows 11 computer. I have to say that I have had zero problems since first using FanControl and am recommending it to everyone I know who might benefit from this software. My only question is why graphics card manufacturers (e.g. nVidia, AMD, Intel) haven't already created software like this of their own, because even though FanControl is much more basic (and not as fancy looking) as some other offerings it's 100% reliable and very, very easy to setup and use.
I was thinking how useful it would be to have the FanControl system tray icon change colour to match the CPU/GPU temperatures. This idea came about because I am always opening and closing FanControl to view the current status of temps and fans, and most of the time the temperatures are fine. I know there already is a feature to add tray icon temperature and fan speed percentages, but I do like the default FanControl icon and prefer to display this than the actual temperature readout on the system tray.
The icon could work from the light spectrum colours, ranging from blue to red - blue being cold and red being hot - with green, yellow, and orange in between, or maybe even custom set colours by the user. This would allow users to still display the default FanControl icon and know at a quick glance the state of temperatures from the colour of the system tray icon without opening the GUI each time.
Yes, there's already an option to display the actual temperatures but I thought it would be a cool addition to have such a feature for the default FanControl system tray icon if it was not too much time and effort involved to make it happen.
