Avoid WinRing0 vulnerability when only using GPU-Control

When using FanControl in a GPU-only mode by not ticking any checkbox for LibreHardwareMonitor in fan source settings, does LHM still get "started"? If not, you're good, right?
If LHM/WinRing0 always gets started (even though everything is ticked off on LHM), maybe now would be a good point in time to change that behavior, considering the recent findings concerning Windows Defender. GPU-only mode would be safe then.
