or ... pick 2/3 to optimize theta, find eigenmodes that capture the spatial patterns after spatial fit, find 6-8 eigenmodes, then freeze eigenmodes and find theta.
Find eigenmodes that improves your spatial fit, and find the spectral component of those eigenmodes only. Do iterative optimization between spectral and spatial correlation in CM style.
