Adding custom data: How to add more information (e.g., metadata other than pixel size, extent etc.) to the images/frames either to save as a sequence or to send it to slicer

As mentioned in the question, I am curious to learn if there is a way to add additional metadata. I see customdata map that can be used. Any examples that can help me get started?
