Set product thumnails vertically on the left

Hi there,
If you guys pay attention, most of modern ecommerce websites have thumbnail pictures on product page set vertically on
the left.

Magento 2 have the option to edit it or do it using an extension.

That'd be great seeing it as a native option on OpenMage as I guess it should not be that difficult to do that
for someone that understands about development.

I guess it gets more minimalistic and more organized.

Am I being too demanding? Should it be an extension or a native settings option?

Anyway, the idea is opened...
