CMake public export of -Wall -Werror -Wextra

Is there a reason why libmetal forces consumers of the CMake targets metal-shared or metal-static to build with -Wall -Werror -Wextra ?
See cmake/options.cmake

set_property (GLOBAL PROPERTY "PROJECT_EC_FLAGS" -Wall -Werror -Wextra)

and in lib/CMakeLists.txt

get_property (_ec_flgs GLOBAL PROPERTY "PROJECT_EC_FLAGS")
...
target_compile_options (${_lib} PUBLIC ${_ec_flgs})

I don't think All above flags are really needed by default. May be good to have but not required.
But, I will let Arnaud and Ed chime in.
